Kim Chiu was born on April 19, 1990, and from Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines. She is a Chinese Filipino actress, singer, recording artist, and television host in the Philippines. She is known as Philippine showbiz’s “Chinita Princess” and once hailed “Princess of Philippine Movies and TV” for three consecutive years in the Philippines.

On March 4, 2020, she was caught in the middle of a shooting incident on the morning of Wednesday. The incident happened at the corner of Katipunan Avenue and CP Garcia Avenue in Quezon City, at around 6:15, am. According to a police report, the two gunmen were on board a motorcycle and fired 6 shots into Chiu’s vehicle. The suspects then fled towards Katipunan Avenue.

The shooting is still under investigation by the Quezon City Police District. Her driver told ABS-CBN that all he saw of the suspects were two men speeding away wearing black jackets and black helmets. The driver added that he did not believe that Chiu had any enemies.

Later, after the incident, Kim posted on her Instagram “A lot of you have been texting and calling. can’t answer right now. Thank you for checking on me. That means a lot. Yes, I am safe po. I’m ok and my P.A. And my driver as well. Papa Jesus protected us. I dont have an idea what really happened, mistaken identity? I guess?? Napag tripan?..”

And added “his is a bad joke. 6am on my way to taping, I was asleep inside my car then I heard several gun shots, 8 to be exact. I was shocked and ask my driver what happened, then I saw this bullet on the windshield where my head was laying “buti nakahiga ako.” Pano kung tinuloy ko magbasa ng script?… I was so scared, I dont know what to feel right now. Wala naman akong kaaway or ka atraso. Why me?. Kung sino man ang gumawa nito Diyos na ang bahala sa inyo dalawa at the end of the day inisip ko nalang walang nasaktan sa amin. God protected us. Salamat po.”

She first starred in the television series, Sana Maulit Muli (2007) which won her the year’s Most Promising Female Star at GMMSF. Then, she went on performing as the lead roles in the dramas such as Philippine adaptation of My Girl (2008), action-melodramas Tayong Dalawa (2009), Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo (2010), rom-com My Binondo Girl (2011-2012), family drama Ina, Kapatid, Anak (2012-2013) and period drama Ikaw Lamang (2014).

In 2016, she acted in the film Bride for Rent and it became the sixth highest-grossing Filipino film of all time grossing P326 million at the box office. Additionally, Kim’s other films are I Love You, Goodbye (2009) and Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo? (2013).
