Jacob Glanville is an American computational Immuno engineer, businessperson, and co-founder and chief executive officer of the start-up company Distributed Bio and its spin-out, Centivax.
Centivax is one of the company are reporting positive findings on the COVID-19 vaccine, Jacob has prominently featured on Netflix’s show, Pandemic.
In the press release Centivax wrote “To put this into context, in science, before medicines are tested in humans, they must demonstrate safety and efficacy in animals that “model” the disease of interest (in this case, COVID-19). When the Centivax medicine was given to hamsters that were already sick with COVID-19, within 24 hours the hamsters experienced a 97% reduction of the virus in the lungs, as well as significantly reduced lung damage. When given before the hamsters were exposed to COVID-19, it protected them from getting sick.”
Who is Jacob Glanville?
He is an inventor, Businessman, entrepreneur, and computational immuno-engineer. He is the Co-Founder, CEO, and President of Distributed Bio, he and his teams apply computationally-guided immune engineering methods to enable a new generation of monoclonal antibody discovery and universal vaccine design.
He co-founded Distributed Bio in 2012 and he developed seminal methods in the fields of high-throughput antibody repertoire sequencing (PNAS 2009), repertoire decoding algorithms (Nature 2017), single-cell TCR receptor & phenotype sequencing (Nature Biotech, 2014), deconstructing genetic variation in the adaptive immune system (Nature Communications 2015, Nature Reports 2016, PNAS 2011, TI 2017), and computationally guided antibody library engineering (JMB 2011, JMB 2013, COSB 2015).
Recently, he was featured in the documentary series Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak and it was released on Netflix on January 22, 2020. Moreover, it has attracted particular media attention due to being released amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
His work on anti-SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 therapeutic antibodies is performed in coordination with USAMRIID, Charles River Laboratories, and other groups.
Talking about his education he attended the University of California and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. In 2017, he graduated with Stanford Univesity with Ph.D., Computational and Systems Immunology.
