Jerry Demings was born on June 12, 1959, and from Orlando, Florida, USA. He is an American law enforcement officer and politician, currently serving as Mayor of Orange County, Florida, in office since 2018. Furthermore, he is the Husband of Val Demings and she was named one of the House Managers in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

She is an American politician and retired law enforcement officer who serves as the United States Representative from Florida’s 10th congressional district. On January 15, 2020, Speaker Nancy Pelosi selected Demings to serve as a manager in the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

Earlier, she served as Chief of the Orlando Police Department, the first woman to hold the position and she was the Democratic nominee in both 2012 and 2016 to represent Florida’s 10th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, the latter of which Demings won.

In 1998, Jerry became police chief of Orlando and was Orlando’s first black police chief and he stayed in that position until 2002. Then, he was Orange County’s Public Safety Chair and resigned to run for Sheriff.

From 2009 to December 2018, he served as Chief of the Orlando Police Department and Director of Public Safety for Orange County, Florida. He was elected to become Mayor of Orange County in August 2018, becoming the first African-American to do so.

In 2002, he was named Director of Public Safety for Orange County, a position in which he served until 2008. When he resigned, Orlando Police Chief Mike McCoy took his place as Public Safety Chair, and Val Demings took McCoy’s place as Police Chief of Orlando. The Orlando Sentinel called it musical chairs in the departments.

In August 2018, he was elected to be Mayor of Orange County and winning with more than 60 percent of the vote.
