Later, she added, “So our hope is that the debate will go forward on the day that it’s scheduled, but obviously we will be attune to any changes that need to be made.” Then, Bedingfield told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos that the campaign supports moving ahead with appropriate safety measures.
“We have every expectation that the Debate Commission take all necessary precautions to ensure that everybody who attends the debate is safe. Obviously, that includes distancing, that includes a requirement on masks,” Bedingfield said.

Kate was hired as the Communications Director in 2015 and 2016 by Joe Biden, and she returned to Biden’s staff in April 2019 as his campaign’s communications director.
Previously, she was a campaign spokesperson for John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina in 2008. In the primary race in January 2008, she criticized her future boss, then-Senator Barack Obama, as she defended Edwards.
In her career, Kate went to work for the former governor of New Hampshire, Jeanne Shaheen, and also served as Shaheen’s communications director, where Shaheen ultimately won the election. In 2008, she worked in the Obama administration and was even named as the Deputy Director of Media Affairs and the Director of Response during her tenure.
