Between 1985 to 1990 she was the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the band The Muffs. In 2001, Kim was a singer, guitarist, and songwriter for The Beards its a super pop side project composed of Shattuck, Lisa Marr, and Sherri Solinger.

In her career, Kim collaborated with vocals for the Kepi Ghoulie song “This Friend of Mine” on the album American Gothic and The Dollyrots for their track “Some Girls” off the album A Little Messed Up. She also sang on a NOFX song, “Lori Meyers” on the album Punk in Drublic.

Additionally, Kim also sang on a Bowling for Soup song, “I’ll Always Remember You (That Way).” In fact, before two weeks of her death, she was ready to release their album in five years, “No Holiday.”

In 2013, Kim joined Pixies it’s an American Rock Band on the European tour. However, in late November 2013, she was fired by Pixies. Then, she joined a reunion of The Pandoras on July 4, 2015, and was the lead singer and guitarist for the reunion due to the 1991 death of original Pandoras lead singer and guitarist Paula Pierce.
