Luis Troyano was 42 years old Bake Off star passed away after battling with cancer, last week Luis closed his eyes and was battling with oesophageal cancer.

His death was confirmed by his agent Anne Kibel on Twitter, wrote “Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week,” and added “A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts.”

His wife Louise tributed him and shared on the JustGiving page ” Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure x,” and added, “This page has been set up for Macmillan Cancer Support but in truth, Luis gave a big thank you to everyone involved in his care.”

Later, on the page, she wrote “A special thank you to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try and eliminate cancer. But more importantly a massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion, and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely.”

Who is Luis Troyano?

Luis Troyano, a trained graphic designer, beekeeper, and baking obsessive, was a finalist on series 5 of The Great British Bake Off. He became known for his ingenious designs and achieved ‘some of the most stunning bakes to ever grace the Bake Off tent’.

He describes himself as a “self-taught cook,” and as a child, he spent every summer in Spain with his mother’s family and was brought up with Spanish and Mediterranean food which influences his cooking and baking today.

According to his website, “Luis thinks it’s the little boy in him that enjoys the chemistry of mixing all the ingredients and seeing what happens. The artist in him enjoys the perfecting the look and decoration of a bake.”

Besides this, he also owned a graphic design business and in August 2015, Luis released a book “Bake it Great: Tips and tricks to transform your bakes from everyday to extraordinary,” which is available on Google book store.

Later on his website, Luis wrote “My baking always starts with a pencil and my notepad. I think I draw then I bake. Whether it’s a cake, tart, pie, or loaf, as long as a wonderful memory is created for the person enjoying it then it’s job done!.”
