Nunez-Smith was one of 13 panelists named to Biden’s task force, and Connecticut Voices’ executive director Emily Byrne told Smith “Is brilliant mind and soul, and I’m deeply grateful for her service.”

She is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Public Health, and Management. According to her LinkedIn page, she is an associate professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at the Yale School of Medicine.

Her research focuses on promoting health and healthcare equity for structurally marginalized populations with an emphasis on supporting healthcare workforce diversity and development, Smith also the principal investigator on several NIH and foundation-funded research projects, including an NIH/NCI-funded project.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, she has been a leading voice and was named to the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group by Gov. Ned Lamont in April 2020, then the group was tasked with fighting out how businesses and schools could operate safely.

She started her career as Core Faculty at Global Health Leadership Institue, Yale University, and serving since 2011. In the same organization, she served as Junior Faculty Representative, Deputy Director for Health Equity Research and Workforce Development, Director, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, Principal Investigator, Associate Professor, and Co-Director of Community Based Participatory Research.

In her career, she has fought against Discrimination in Health Care, Smith also the founding director of the Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Health Equity Leadership, which is within the Yale School of Management.
