Markus Räikkönen is the Husband of Sanna Marin who is a Finnish politician who has been the Prime Minister of Finland since 10 December 2019. Curently, she is now the world’s youngest sitting prime minister on Tuesday after the 34-year-old transportation minister was sworn in as Finland’s new prime minister on Tuesday.

A Social Democrat, she has been a member of the Parliament of Finland since 2015 and the Minister of Transport and Communications between 6 June 2019 and 10 December 2019.

Her new finance minister is even younger. Katri Kulmuni, 32, is one of four other female party leaders in the five-party ruling centre-left coalition. Only one of them is over 35. The new government is also set to have 12 female and seven male ministers, a high gender ratio even for a country which in 1907 became the first in the world to elect women to parliament.

The Helsinki-born former transport minister will be the country’s third female government leader after she narrowly beat rival Antti Lindtman to take over the government’s top post from incumbent Antti Rinne. According to Finish media, Ms. Marin was brought up in a ‘rainbow family’ by her mother and her female partner.

She lived in Espoo and Pirkkala before moving to Tampere, where she became the first person in her family to go to university. In 2015 Ms. Marin told the Menaiset website that as a child she felt ‘invisible’ because she was unable to talk openly about her unconventional family.

Ms. Marin, who spent her teenage years working in a bakery, added that her mother has always been very supportive and made her believe she could do anything she wanted. Marin graduated from the Pirkkala High School in 2004 at the age of 19. She graduated from the University of Tampere with a Master of Administrative Sciences in 2017.

Marin was a candidate in the 2008 Finnish municipal elections but was not elected. She became active in politics from 2012. In the 2012 elections, she was elected to the City Council of Tampere at the age of 27 which was a breakthrough moment in her political career.

In 2015 at the age of 30, she was elected to the Parliament of Finland as an MP from the electoral district of Pirkanmaa and four years later, she was re-elected. On 6 June 2019, she became the Minister of Transport and Communications.

Marin told the Finnish site Menaiset in 2015 that she felt her upbringing in an LGBT+ household influenced her values as a politician. She said: ‘For me, people have always been equal. It’s not a matter of opinion. That’s the foundation of everything.

Her parents split up when she was very young and in her early years her mother raised her alone. The family faced financial problems.

In July 2017, she shared poolside shots from a romantic holiday to Italy and which she and Markus traveled to Portofino, Rome, Sardinia and Veneto, and snaps from Pride events, where she showed her support for same-sex unions.
