Michael Kovrig was born in the year 1970 in Vancouver, Canada. He is an ex-Canadian diplomat who was working in Beijing with the International Crisis Group previously. In the recent days, Michael Kovrig is in the news as he was disappeared since December 10. According to the sources, he was held by the Beijing National Security Bureau on Monday.

On December 12, the case of Michael Kovrig disappearance has been raised by Canadian Foreign Minister with Chinese officials. The case seems to have a link with the arrest Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver who is a Huawei Chief Financial Officer and a high-profile citizen of China on December 1. She had been arrested for her allegations against sanctions on Iran. It is also said that China has demanded the release of Meng or to face the consequences.
Two people who can relate the situation of Michael Kovrig are Julia Garratt and Kevin. Garratt was living and working in China for about 30 years and he was also having a coffee shop business and involved in volunteer work with Christian aid groups. On the day in August 2014, the Chinese officials surround them and whipped them away without any warning. Kevin was arrested for had to wait for 2 years until he was left free.
