Stanley Robinson

Stanley Robinson was born on July 14, 1988, and from Birmingham, Alabama. He was a UConn legend & American professional basketball player for Español de Talca of the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol de Chile.

on July 22, 2020, he passed away at the age of 32, his coach Jim Calhoun said “He was just a sweet kid,” and added “The world was harsh for him because they weren’t all like Stanley Robinson. He was such a caring, giving person.”

The cause of death has yet to be determined and was found dead in his home by his mother, Calhoun said.

Former teammate Jonathan Mandeldove wrote “Forever my brother I love you, bro,” and added, “Damn this hurt, because I know you were getting your life together.”

Then, Donyell Marshall said “Stanley was a great dude. We always had a good time when we hung out and talked to each other.”

Career

In 2010, he was drafted in the second round by the NBA’s Orlando Magic, then he played in the D-League developmental league, and professionally in Canada and overseas, but a series of injuries, including a ruptured Achilles, robbed him of his chance to play in the NBA.

Later, in his career he played in the Greater Hartford Pro-Am during several summers, and frequently visited UConn, or more recently Calhoun’s team at St. Joseph’s.

At UConn, he was suspended by Calhoun and worked his way back onto the team by taking a job at a scrap metal company in Willimantic.
