Later, in a statement she said “I am very relieved that USADA understood how unique my case was in giving me a ‘no-fault’ (ruling) that allows me to resume my career immediately,” and added “I had no idea that I could become contaminated by way of intimate contact with another person. I want to thank USA Boxing for believing in me and supporting me throughout these past few difficult months.”

Travis Tygart, CEO of USADA, said Fuchs’ story should be used as an example of why changes need to be made to the World Anti-Doping Code. In an interview, she said that in early March that an out-of-competition urine test obtained in mid-February contained trace amounts of two banned substances.

However, Virginia Fuchs discovered that her boyfriend had purchased products including the two banned substances, and was taking them without her knowledge at a time when they engaged in unprotected sex.

Career

In 2008, Virginia Fuchs took boxing as her career and trained for a year before her first fight, which she won. In 2015, she won a national Golden Gloves title and also competed at the state level and won three Louisiana state Golden Gloves.

Then, Virginia Fuchs was a finalist for the US National Tournament for 2013, 2014, and 2015. Furthermore, in 2015 she was defeated Esparza in the Olympic Test Event for the USA Boxing flyweight spot for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Then, she defeated Olympic medalist and five-time world champion, Mary Kom of India, and won gold at the Olympic Trials Test Event.

In the 2016 American Qualification Event for AIBA, she was placed 3rd. In the same year, Fuchs won 1st in the Boxing Nationals defeating Marlene Esparza for the third straight time with a unanimous 5-0 decision.
