Emeli Sandé reveals she is in a same-sex relationship after becoming a lesbian. Emeli mentioned that her girlfriend is a classical pianist and that they met while she was studying classical music in the interview.
In an interview with Metro on Thursday, the British singer/songwriter, 35, revealed that she is a member of the LGBTQ community. She is dating a female classical pianist who she considers “the one for life.” She even took her new boyfriend to meet her parents in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where she grew up and says the visit went well.
Emeli has yet to divulge her partner’s name or identity, possibly because she wants to keep their relationship private for now. It’s also unclear how long the two have been dating, but their shared love of music brought them together. Emeli said that her relationship with her spouse was the inspiration for her new album, Let’s Say For Instance, released on May 6th.
Sandé made the statement when the video for her new song “There Isn’t Much,” filmed by Mareike Macklon and featuring LGBTQ-identified female dancers, was published. “Everything I thought I wanted” becomes “nothing without the perfect person to share it with,” she explains in the song. From 2012 until 2014, the singer was married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine. During their connection, she told The New York Times that she was “pretending to be someone else.”
